Membership Guidelines

Here's how the club works, who fits, and what it costs — in plain terms. If it sounds like your kind of group, the next step is to come out as a guest.

What we're about

RIGG was started to give male senior golfers around San Jose a regular, well-organized way to play the area's courses. We play 50 rounds a year at 13 to 15 different courses, all within about 60 miles of San Jose — a local course every Wednesday. The full year's schedule comes out each December and lives right here on the site.

Handicaps across the club run the full range, and every tournament is flighted by handicap and by the tees played, so anyone can have a good day and win their flight.

A great group of folks who also like a little competition to hone their golf games.

Who's eligible

RIGG is a club for male golfers age 55 and older.

There are a few steps to becoming a member — all of them really just ways to make sure the club and the new member are a good fit for each other:

  1. 1Be recommended by a current member.
  2. 2Complete and submit the New Member Application.
  3. 3Play as a guest at least four times within a three-month stretch.
  4. 4Play at least one of those rounds with a member of the Board of Directors.
  5. 5Show that you know the game — the rules and the etiquette.
  6. 6Intend to play the recommended 15 rounds a year.

New members are encouraged to take a turn as a scheduler or collector for one of the courses. It's the fastest way to meet everyone, and it keeps the club humming.

Fees & prizes

  • Annual club dues, set by the Board each year.
  • A small $3 prize-and-admin fee is added to each green fee, for members and guests alike.
  • Prizes go to the low-net scores in each flight, plus closest-to-the-pin on selected holes.
  • An annual luncheon caps off the year, usually after a December round, at the General Meeting.
Good to know: members maintain their own NCGA membership for handicap posting — the club doesn't bill it with dues. (Older by-laws wording on this is being brought up to date by the Board.)

Signing up for rounds

Once you're a member, you sign up for each week's round on your dashboard in the Members area — one tap to say you're in. Before then, a Board member or the schedulers will help you get on the list when you come out as a guest.

Many members eventually fall into a regular foursome, though plenty prefer to mix it up week to week. Either way, plan to be at the course at least 30 minutes before your tee time — collectors use that window to fill out the day's pairings, and we often start a little early.
